Allows crew to enter and exit the ship, such as to pick up resources or transfer between ships.
Airlock Hatches, or simply Airlocks, are parts used to allow Crew members access in and out of ships and stations. At least one Airlock Hatch is required to allow crew to initially enter a ship, and then to later exit to perform tasks such as hauling, mining, and construction. An unlimited number of crew can use an airlock simultaneously.
Placement
Airlocks can be placed anywhere to provide access to where their door faces. Since airlocks are considered in the path-finding algorithm, they can be used to provide access to isolated sections of ships that otherwise have no direct connection through corridors or other parts.
It is good practice to include multiple airlocks around a ship to create more efficient paths for crew, and to provide redundancy in case of destruction of otherwise more direct routes.
