Ion • Rammers are built to be fast but still tanky enough to catch and kill the enemy with a high DPS ion beam.
General setup:
- Thrust and shields on both sides
- A big ion core in the center. A "V" core is the most common ion prism arrangement.
- Armor in the front
- Disruptors to help against shields
Optional design choices
- Side Nukes
- Pretask of large shields using the ions and disruptors
- Ramming hooks
- Amiable ions have some more flexibility but cost more credits and the extra combinations lose DPS.
- UL makes the ship extremely fragile but faster.
Piloting
- Often you can simply try to straight up ram the opponent.
- Orbiting also is a strong tool to for example:
- tank missiles which would otherwise hit the back
- Lessen the effect of enemy tractor beams
- Bait out mines
- In some cases, your armor only is a hindrance that slows you down (when facing tb rails for example). You use your own ions to cut the front armor off in such a scenario.
