Allows crew to travel faster, but only in one direction.
Moving Walkways are a special floor part that can be used instead of Corridors. They grant Crew members accelerated movement speed in the direction they are facing, at the cost of a massive speed reduction when travelling in the opposite direction.
Direction | Amount |
---|---|
Forward | 200% |
Across | 75% |
Reverse | 25% |
Careful placement of moving walkways can massively improve the efficiency of crew and transport of resources such as power, which becomes increasingly required as ships grow larger. Shields and weapons in particular benefit from crew being able to deposit power more quickly.
Optimal use of moving walkways should always provide a return trip for crew travelling the opposite direction, either in the form of another moving walkway, or even just a normal corridor. The pathfinding algorithm is smart enough to prioritize these routes over walking in reverse on the walkways.
In the gif below, walkways allow an ion beam redirection setup (a.k.a. "ion core") to function without "flickering". The left half has them, the right one doesn't.
