Alias "Build Mode".

This is the interface you open when you want to create a ship from scratch or modify the parts of an existing ship.

Not to be confused with the Crew Management interface, nor the Resource Management one.

There, you can select parts in one of two build modes and place them with respect to some placement limitations, to build or modify your ship.

Build modes

You can switch between these at any time :

  • Default : most restricted
  • Blueprint : only the final result needs to be legal, and illegally placed pieces are red instead of blue.

Construction modes

In Career it is not possible to switch between these after the campaign's initial settings have been set at the very beginning. In Creative you can freely switch.

  • Free Build a.k.a. Creative : instant.
  • Crew construction : performed by crew piece by piece. They may also go and get floating resources nearby to save on costs. Crew construction is disabled in PvP game modes.

Trivia

  • The game's default (unmodded) grid is 120x120 tiles large, for a total of 14400 tiles (or "cells"). Filling this up with just corridors (for example, to make a paintcard) would cost 1.440.000 credits, or 57600 steel plates.
