The Atlas Freighter is publicly regarded as a crown jewel in Monolith trade fleets, in an exceedingly bizarre fashion. The external appearance and huge amount of asymmetry in the design stump all but the top designers in its original conception, and lead to speculation that it utilizes principles found within the original Monolith artifact to increase internal volume. Either that, or it serves as an excellent red herring for spies and espionage.
