Alpha |
Archetype | The burst potential of a part. | This word is most commonly used when describing something with a lot of immediate potential but low or even no sustainability. Example: An Alpha railfan does not supply its rails with power or ammo to purely focus on damage. Alpha boost is used to quickly enter a fight without needing to worry about resupply routes. |
Armor Weaving |
Ship Architecture | Arranging 2x1 armor in a brick-like formation. | This is done to increase the effective health of a ship’s armor by spreading damage. |
Avoider |
Archetype | An omni thrust ship designed to strafe or kite around the enemies. | The classical version of this build uses different shields, blasters and eb. |
Barge |
Archetype | Forwards-backwards Bi-thrust ship. Also known as a cruiser. | Mostly used for long HE missile ships. |
Bi-Thrust / Linear Thrust |
Thrust type | A thrust setup characterized by having similar or the same thrust in two directions. | |
Brick |
Archetype | A ship with a lot of armor. | |
Broadsider |
Archetype | A ship with most or all of its weapons on its sides that is designed to face an opponent with its sides. | Generally considered a very weak ship type. |
Bumper |
Ship Archetecture | Structure that prevents your opponent from entering the large shield radius. | Often seen on light ships like orbiter walls or UL nuke orbiters. |
Cruiser |
Archetype | Forwards-backwards Bi-thrust ship. Also known as a barge. | For example, the ion cruiser is a very iconic ship type. |
Detach |
Ship Architecture | Using explosive charges to remove part of your own ship, for reasons like speed gain by shedding weight. | |
Duel |
Game Etiquette | A 1v1 battle between players with the expectation that other players don't get involved. | |
Feathering |
Piloting Technique | Preserving thrust rampup. | Done by tapping the turn keys while holding the forward key in order to keep as much thrust ramped up as possible. This is basically required to effectively pilot mono thrust ships. |
Fastwall |
Archetype | Outdated term for avoider. | |
Ion core |
Ship Architecture | A group of ion beam emitters and ion beam prisms arranged in a beneficial way. | |
Kite |
Archetype | A mono thrust ship designed to utilize its speed and range to keep enemies away while firing. | |
Locking |
Design Trick | Creating a stable connection between 2 different ships | The method allowing for a consistent and stable combining of separate ships works by exploiting a flaw in the game's collision detection algorithm that occurs when a ship is moving from 15-21 m/s. Archetype | A Spinner with an internal ship to move it around. | |
Mono Ship |
Archetype | A singular ship. | |
Mono Thrust |
Thrust Type | A thrust setup characterized by most or all of the thrust pointing in a single direction. | |
Morbiter |
Archetype | A Missile Orbiter. | |
Nuke Flinging |
Piloting technique | Rotating your ship in order to impart your ships rotational energy into a nuke's directional velocity. | A common strategy for UL nuke orbiters |
Omni Thrust |
Thrust Type | A thrust setup characterized by having similar or the same power in all directions. | |
Orbiter |
Archetype | A Mono thrust ship designed to circle around another ship. | |
Preload |
Design Trick | Setting Launchers to a different missile type than what is supplied | This is done to have one volley of a different missile type before using the main ammo type. |
Pretasking |
Logistics | A logistics trick where crew supplying a low priority part can be rerouted to supply a higher priority part. | Most often used to increase large shield uptime. |
Railfan |
Archetype | A heavily armored railgun ship. | Some people call any kind of railgun ship a rail fan. |
Railfanning |
Piloting Technique | Focusing railgun fire in one spot. | You achieve this by setting your rails to fire at target and targeting one spot, then rotating your ship so all of the rails hit one spot. |
Horn |
Ship Architecture | Long structure that extends from a ship designed to manipulate the movement of other ships during a ram. | TB rail sometimes use horns in order to prevent a ramlock |
Ramlock |
Piloting Technique | Ramming the opponent in such a way that they can not escape the ship contact. | Commonly assisted by ramming hooks and utilized by rammers. |

Ship Architecture | 2 symmetrically arranged horns designed to keep opponents in a ramlock | |
Spinner |
Archetype | A ship designed to spin. | The main advantage of spinners is their ability to spread damage and be durable from every direction. The most common spinner armament is rails |
Rammer |
Archetype | A Mono thrust ship designed to ram opponents, most often using Ions or Deck Cannons and making use of hooks. | |
Scout |
Archetype | A small, light and at most very lightly armed ship | Used to provide vision and capture unoccupied points in Domination. |
Spaced Armor |
Ship Architecture | Using 1x1 armor wedges. | This is done in order to achieve higher penetration resistance |
Splitter |
Archetype | A Mono ship that can split into a set of traps or a swarm. | |
Structure cage |
Ship Architecture | Structure that prevents your opponent from entering the large shield radius. | Often used on very light ships like orbiter walls or UL nuke orbiters |
Squib |
Archetype | A small secondary ship designed to flank. | |
Swarm |
Archetype | A set of Four or more ships. | |
Traps |
Archetype | A set of Two or Three ships. | |
Tri-Thrust |
Thruster Type | A thrust setup characterized by having thrust in three directions. | |
Ultralight |
Archetype | A ship designed to minimize weight by using no armor and significantly limiting the amount of corridors/walkways. | Many people use this word to simply describe light ships that even have armor |
Uptime |
Logistics | A description of how well a part is supplied with resources. | Example: Your shields having good uptime means they regenerate quickly.
Your thrust having bad uptime means that it flickers and isnt working at full capacity. |
Wall |
Archetype | A very wide ship with a large amount of surface area dedicated to weapons. | There are multiple types like orbiter walls, cruiser walls and Avoiders. |
Waste Ship |
Archetype | A ship designed to be as cheap and expendable as possible. | Such ships often have no reactors or additional ammo storage and are commonly used in domination. |
