The Mining Laser is an energy weapon and utility part that can be built on ships and stations. It fires dual sustained beams from a top-mounted turret (meaning it cannot be within two tiles of other roof turrets or "tall" parts, such as a Deck Cannon) that can cut through asteroids, allowing crew members to collect resources inside that wouldn't otherwise be harvestable. The Mining Laser can break down "Hard" asteroid rocks, which cannot otherwise be mined by crew. However, the Laser must mine every rock between it and the designated resources, meaning proper positioning can save a lot of time.

It can also be used to salvage ships and stations in the same manner by breaking down parts for crew members to collect. Mining Lasers can additionally be used as weapons as a last resort, though they are not very effective, due to their short range and low damage. They also have a degree of inaccuracy; the beams wave back and forth, which is most noticeable at long distances.
