Structure

The underlying structural frame that holds a ship together. Structure is automatically included with all rooms and corridors.
- In-game description

Structure is the base layer of all ships and acts as the architectural component that holds the ship pieces together. Structure pieces can only connect on their orthogonal sides (e.g., the Structure Wedge cannot connect on the long side of the triangle at a 45 degree angle). As they are the base layer, by default weapons pass over structure (including enemy weapons), though some do damage it slightly as they pass. It is possible to specifically target structure on enemy ships, in which case weapons that normally pass over structure will collide with it instead; this can be useful for targeting enemy weak points to physically break off key sections of an already-damaged ship. Additionally, because your weapons pass over structure, but ships do not, this forms the basis of some Ramming ship archetypes.

Variants

All structure parts except the basic 1x1 square also have a variant composed of half-Armor, half-Structure. This has the benefit of providing full mounting points on all four sides of the piece of armor, by virtue of the structure "filling in" the overall shape, at the expense of additional resource cost over the corresponding base armor component and without providing any additional hit points, penetration resist, etc.
