Hecatoncheires is a tier 14 destroyer used by the Fringe Systems Resistance.

Tactics

Just like its predecessors, Hecatoncheires forces its opponent into a sadistic choice between waves of cannon rounds or nukes . Compared to its earlier incarnations, Hecatoncheires hits harder and poses a special threat to ships relying on missiles thanks to its eight flak batteries. Leaving Hecatoncheires' weapons alone to attempt to go directly for its reactor is a practical death sentence due to the damage output of its cannons and flak. Instead, you should have developed a strategy to deal with enemies with weapons that lack proper aiming capabilities by this late in the game. While its cannons are still top-priority, especially since they're easy to destroy, you should direct your attention (or that of your flankers') towards taking out Hecatoncheires' flak, which further reduces its damage and allows you to strafe the ship more effectively. Alternatively, a powerful tanking ship with strong missile defenses (flak is necessary - PD can't focus on a point well enough to deal with Hecatoncheires' nukes) can occupy its nukes while your other ships circle around.

If, for some reason, you lack flankers and strafing ability, then you'll need to compensate with enough pure damage output to pierce its shields and destroy its nukes before incurring too much damage.

Trivia

  • Hecatoncheires is a successor to two smaller Fringe Systems Resistance ships, Backup and Hydra , sharing the same paint style and unusual weapons placement.
  • The name of this ship means "hundred-handed one", a giant from Greek mythology with a hundred hands and heads. This references the many different layers of weapons on the ship. Interestingly, this Greek mythological naming scheme is shared with Hydra, but not Backup.
